Why your clinic software should be open source

Ask a dentist who has switched clinic software what it cost them. The answer is rarely the subscription. It is the weeks spent getting their own patient records out of the old system.

Lock-in is the real price

When software is closed, the vendor decides how you leave. Exports can be partial, slow or charged for. Years of X-rays, treatment history and balances become a reason to stay, whatever the service is like.

What open source changes

  • You can always leave. The data format is public and export is free.
  • You can always stay. If a vendor disappears, the software keeps running.
  • You can check the work. Anyone can inspect how patient data is stored and protected.

Why we still charge

DentalPin’s core is free to run on your own server. Most clinics would rather not manage servers, backups, WhatsApp setup and updates, so our India cloud does that for a monthly fee. If you ever want to take it in-house, you take everything with you.
